is the name of the article I chose off of slate.com. It was written my Mark Oppenheimer. The voice he uses in his writing is kind of in the middle, educated, but laid back enough to still be entertaining while also informative. In the beginning of the article, he sounded like someone in desperate need of advice; like someone with a question he couldn’t find an answer to. As the article continues he starts to find his answer by talking about his friends and family. For the most part, I think that he’s really just writing for himself. This article is just his thought process. Also the article is for anyone who has the same concerns, it’s for parents, or future parents, or people who have grown up as vegetarians perhaps. You can tell he’s writing in a laid back manner, using words like “freegans” and referring to steak houses and delis as temples of meat. One part of the article I found humorous was when he was discussing how he’d go about eating meat whilst his two daughters are being raised as vegetarians. He compares going out to T.G.I. Friday’s with a buddy and having a burger and some calamari, to sending his kids off to summer camp and getting high while their away. An interesting comparison, bit of a stretch; but it definitely explains how he sees hiding a habit, any kind of habit; from his children. Really, this article is for anyone on with any sort of interest in, or opinion about vegetarianism.
