For this post I want you to do a little research on your name. Where does your name come from? Do you have a family history surrounding your name? What are the origins of your family name? How does your name inform who you are?
Try these resources: Oxford English Dictionary, Ancestor Search, Behind The Name, and also Google it!
Spend 250 or more words discussing the origin of your name and the significance those origins have for you in your present life.
Be sure to title your blogs well! Titles are an integral part of any written work. Make it work for you and your writing!
These are due before class on Friday.

My Name
ReplyDeleteThe Name Devin is an irish name that means" Little Black One. It was given to me by my uncle. My Mother had asked my Uncle to name me after he had me. My mom says that she couldnt come up with a name and she had been in labor for 48-Hours with me.My last name comes from a place that means "North Wood. I think if you look back on slavery you would be able to see that my last name was a Slave owner's last name. My last name comes from my father's side of the family, while talking to family member's i found out that my last name " Norwood has been in our family for over 100 years. I feel that My first name Devin matches me because i am a little balck one. This is an funny cause this is what my nmae means. Growing up is hard with or without your parents but i myself Devin Deshawn Norwood has made it through all by myself.
My name finally found its meaning by just googling it. My name was found in www.thinkingbabynames.com and part of my name "Mariel" is danish and Mary which is Latin and it leads to the meaning of star of the sea. It sounds pretty cool. My name was popular back in the 1990s, which was the year that I was born. That was according to the U.S Census, but then it dropped by 2005. However, according to my parents, my name was after a spanish soap opera in Ecuador. My mom was at the hospital and while she was watching tv and was ready to give birth, she just had in her mind to name me after that title. WOW! right?...Well, my full name reads, Mariela del Carmen Quintuna. Carmen comes from my aunt and Quintuna from my dad. Over at Ecuador, the second n in Quintuna is actually a ñ, but since we don't use that letter here in the U.S, we just say Quintuna (Keen-Too-Na)....I am happy of the meaning of my last name. But probably soon, my last name will change. LOL!
