Honestly, to me a name is just a name. I don’t see any real significance in it except that you’re stuck with it for your entire life. I was named Doris after my great grandmother, on my mother’s side of my family. My mother was very close to her grandmother, and after my parents got married she was and important person to both my parents. It was between my mother’s grandmother and my father’s, but his grandmother’s name was Euginea, and I think no parents are cruel enough to name their daughter that. However that’s where they came up with my middle name, Jeane. Doris is an English and German language name, that comes from Greek culture. It first started being used as an English name in the nineteenth century. In Greek mythology “Doris” was the daughter of Tethys and Oceanus; god and goddess of the sea. Doris also refers to a region in central Greece, and Asia minor that was inhabited by the Dorians. I don’t really bother to think about if I would have liked to be named something else, since it’s not like it’s going to happen any way. I like my name because people tend to remember it, and they don’t mix it up with a different one either. My name really doesn’t matter much to me, I’ve had it all my life so I guess I’m used to it.
