My Best Friend

The person most influential to me has to b my best friend Alex. Like me, he is an extremely talented jazz vocalist and instrumentalist. I have been singing since I was fourteen years old and he is the first male jazz vocalist that I have met. His very presence and the fact that he is really talented has challenged me and forced me to work harder. Outside of music, Alex has helped to unleash my competitive spirit by introducing me to sports and video games (I was never really into them when I was younger). Over the last year, Alex has consistently been there for me, most notably since I was diagnosed with depression last September. He has always been there to talk when I need to or to tell me when I am being irrational. I am most touched by these things because Alex is a very private person. He doesn’t open up to people and certainly doesn’t befriend other singers, but for some reason we have a connection. I have always been wary of people that I meet and I keep them at arms length, (that’s another thing we have in common) but I trust Alex with my life. I would do just about anything for him. I have only known him for about two years, but I feel as if he is my brother. Alex has helped me to become a better person by showing me his emotional strength and his unwavering integrity, virtues that I can only hope to parallel someday. The best thing, though, is that he has taught me to believe in myself. It sounds really cheesy, I know, but for that I will always be grateful.
